First Look Shots
There are all sorts of shots that you might be considering for your wedding day. One that is seriously worth considering is called the first look. But what is the first look shot?
First look is that moment when the bride and groom first set eyes on each other before the ceremony begins. This is not when the groom looks down the aisle; it’s a quiet time when the couple has a moment alone to have some portraits taken.
How the First Look Images are Captured
Talk to your wedding photographer in Cardiff about the options I might suggest. One of the most common ways is for the groom and the photographer to go and find a beautiful, secluded and quiet spot and get set up. The bride then comes along, approaching so the groom cannot see until she reaches him and either taps him on the shoulder or says his name so he knows it’s time to turn around. Another way is for both the bride and groom to turn around with their eyes closed to then open them and set eyes on one another while the photographer takes the photos.
Why Choose the First Look Photo
If you ask brides and grooms about their wedding day most of them will say they can’t remember much, the day goes so quickly and everything gets blurred into one. The first look shots give the couple a few slowed down minutes where time can pause. The couple can be alone just to treasure the moment.
Another reason for the first look shots is to help the couple to relax. This is especially important for brides or grooms that are easily affected by stress or anxiety. It helps to build confidence before the whirlwind of the day sets in motion.
The Photographers Job
Unlike a large proportion of the rest of the day, the photographer will not be giving instructions on poses and asking other people to come in and out of the shots. The photographer will take on more of a photojournalistic role, letting the couple have their natural moment.
If you don’t want your future husband to catch sight of you before walking down the aisle then this shot isn’t for you. That’s perfectly fine; the first reaction of the groom as he sets eyes on his bride can still be captured providing the wedding venue allows photography. However, if you think you both would like the first look shots don’t forget to mention it during our first no obligation meeting when discussing your wishes for the day.
